The Swedes have been doing it wrong all these years – that’s how you pour soy the right way

Have you also poured soy on the rice and accidentally drowned the grains? What if there was a way to get exactly as much soy as you want? That’s something 22-year-old Sem Bloom discovered. And he suspects that all of Sweden is now doing wrong.

There is a company that sells soy sauce meant to be kept on the dining table in a small bottle to be used when it suits the food, like salt and pepper. The table version has been sold since the 60s and is produced by a company in Japan. The design is made so that the soy sauce does not drip and so that you get the right amount of soy on the plate.

But perhaps not many people know how to actually use the bottle.

I was in Japan with my girlfriend last year and it completely passed us by. So I thought if we managed to miss it, maybe many others don’t know, says Sem Bloom.

Now you will always pour soy this way

Now the influencer Sem Bloom from Gothenburg has cracked the code to the soy bottle. As you know, the bottle has two holes that you can pour out of, and if you hold one hole, it doesn’t flow out of the other. It is called revolutionary by some, but Sem is a bit modest there.

Revolutionary, I don’t know, but it was new to me until a few days ago.

But if you follow that technique, you get total control over the soy bottle and with your finger a kind of on and off button.

I have not received confirmation that this is the reason. But I myself saw a similar video and felt “but God, people need to know this,” says Sem Bloom.

What Sem did was post the clip where he explains the technique. And it has received hundreds of thousands of views on Tiktok.

It makes the soy design even better

And even if it wasn’t Sem’s idea from the beginning, he has come up with an addition that makes the design from the 60s that little bit better. Because the sauce bottle is often on the tables in the sushi restaurant, and with all the guests’ fingers on one hole, it can seem unhygienic.

Then you can run a green and a red side and then you can always pour from the red and hold on to the green, says Sem Bloom.

And it should be mentioned that Sem’s observation about the soy bottle was correct, because it is confirmed on the soy company’s own YouTube channel. One hole is for pouring, while the other is a so-called “control hole”.
