According to the preliminary vote count, the Sweden Democrats received 24.1 percent of the votes from Gävleborg in the parliamentary election – an increase of 4.5 percentage points since the 2018 election.
Voter support in the regional election is slightly lower at 18.7 percent, but 3.8 percentage points higher than the last time Gävle citizens went to the ballot box.
Largest increase in Ovanåker
In the municipal elections, the Sweden Democrats are increasing in all of the county’s municipalities. The biggest increase is in Ovanåker with 6.3 percent higher voter support. There, the Social Democrats have governed during the last term together with the Moderates and the Liberals.
– We become an important party for those who want to form a majority in the municipality. We are ready to talk to everyone, says Stefan Embretzen, Sweden Democrats Ovanåker.
Riksdag settlement facilitates cooperation
Roger Hedlund (SD) believes that the cooperation between the Sweden Democrats, the Moderates, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats in the Riksdag will facilitate negotiations locally.
– It is clear that it is sometimes difficult to know how parties reason at the local level. In some municipalities the Liberals have governed with the Social Democrats and in other municipalities have gone in a bourgeois direction. My experience is that they have chosen sides during this election campaign, he says.
