Now Anton Strålman opens to return to Sweden.
– That alternative exists, he says.
It has been more than 15 years since Anton Strålman broke through in Timrå in the Elite Series. Then it carried off across the Atlantic to the NHL and Toronto Maple Leafs, and the start of a successful NHL career.
Long NHL career
The Swedish defender has played over 900 matches in the world’s best hockey league, represented a bunch of different clubs and, among other things, played a Stanley Cup final.
On the other hand, he has never been allowed to lift a dent away in North America. And last season, he belonged to the entire NHL’s biggest punching bag Arizona Coyotes. Anton Strålman’s contract with the organization expired after the season, and the hill is currently considering what will be the next step in his career – or if he even quits.
Conversation with the SHL club
– We’ll see a little and I leave all the doors open. I’ve left the door open to stay here in Arizona even though I’m becoming a free agent and can go wherever I want. Either if I make an extension or wait until July to see what my options are, he says to Hockeysverige and continues:
– A move home is also on the map. Whether it then involves gambling or just retiring, that option also exists, I do not know today. What we have decided on is that if there is another year over here, it will be my last.
Anton Strålman also confirms that he has had talks with HV71 and sports director Kent “Nubben” Norberg – who is the club’s new sports director for the coming years.
– I have had some contact with “Nubben”, but nothing serious in that way. He realized quite quickly that you can drive to Jönköping in an hour from Skövde. He was snooping a bit, it has not been more serious than that, says the hill.
