The suspect in the shooting of the Slovak prime minister

The 71-year-old suspect says he acted alone and regrets his act.

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Ficon the man suspected of the shooting has stated that his motive is that he opposes the country’s Ukraine policy, according to the court documents obtained by the news agency AFP.

Fico was shot just over a week ago when he was greeting his supporters in Handlova in central Slovakia. After several surgeries, the Prime Minister is still in a serious but stable condition.

The shooter is suspected to be 71 years old Juraj Cintula, who is in custody. He has been charged with attempted murder.

– He repeated that he did not want to kill, but to injure, and therefore aimed at the lower body, wrote the judge of the preliminary investigation, referring to the interrogation records.

According to the documents, Cintula was enraged about, among other things, the termination of military aid to Ukraine and the alleged persecution of the media. He says he acted alone.

According to the documents, Cintula said he deeply regrets his actions and is ready to apologize to Fico.

The condition of Fico, who was wounded in the shooting, has improved, but he is still hospitalized.
