Even though it is very happy to have a pet at home, the responsibilities of pets can be difficult. Experts state that small details that are overlooked while keeping pets can put both the animals and your health at risk. Dermatology Specialist Dr. Instructor Member Necla Eryılmaz stated that zoophilic fungal infections have been seen more frequently in recent years and said, “The reason why we see an increase in zoophilic fungi is our little friends we feed at home. “The source of this fungus is pets and especially cats,” he said.
“CAN CAUSE PERMANENT HAIR LOSS”
Dermatology Specialist Necla Eryılmaz said that there are different types of fungi, and said, “Children are much more common in this age group because they are very close to pets. “When the treatment is delayed, it can cause permanent hair loss. Usually, the diagnosis is delayed because patients do not care that much about the redness of the skin at the beginning. When we make the diagnosis, we want the animal to be treated immediately. The treatment period can be very long. If delayed when the hair area is involved, it may cause permanent hair loss. Unfortunately, in untreated patients “We have children who go to hair transplantation due to permanent hair loss. If it is noticed too late, there may be irreversible losses.”
“EVEN IF CATS ARE VACCINATION, WE FREQUENTLY ENCOUNTER THESE CASES”
Emphasizing that this fungus is more common in cats, Eryılmaz said, “This fungus, which is transmitted from pets, is mostly seen in cats. It is more common in those who have cats at home. It is absolutely necessary to consult a doctor in the early period for rashes that do not pass on the skin and grow towards the dandruff environment. Even if the cats are vaccinated, we encounter these cases frequently. We should not think that my cat has been vaccinated anyway, we should see a specialist immediately at the slightest symptom. Especially because it is more common than cats, patients sometimes come saying that I have cat fungus. We like that term too, although we don’t like mushrooms. Parents should be conscious and take care of their pets regularly. If they see a change in pet hair, they should consult a veterinarian, and if there is redness on the skin in children and especially dandruff on the scalp or hair breakage or shedding, they should urgently consult a specialist doctor.
