But he was still thanked when the prize was awarded.

Victor Hedman has another party season behind him. The Swedish megastar has won two straight Stanley CUp titles, after which on the only occasion he was named the most valuable player in the entire playoffs.
Snorted at the price
Victor Hedman has now once again led his team to a third straight Stanley Cup final, and it was not very surprising that he was nominated for the Norris Trophy, the prize for this year’s back. Hedman has almost subscribed to nominations for the award as back of the year last year, and this year was no exception.
But Hedman did not go straight to the awards ceremony as the big favorite. He had tough competition against Colorado’s Cale Makar, and Nashville’s Roman Josi, and much expected, there was no win for Hedman. Instead, it was the young Cale Makar – who dominated in a rare way during the regular season and the playoffs – who received the award.
The words are noticed
But once on stage, Cale Makar surprised many. He went up and thanked his two rivals – this despite the fact that Makar and Hedman are currently bitter rivals and meet in a Stanley Cup final, and showing that kind of courtesy is not directly commonplace.
– First of all, I want to congratulate Josi and Hedman for the incredible seasons they had. You really lifted me throughout the season, and it’s incredible to compete against you every night, Makar said.
And that Makar chose to pay tribute to Josi – but above all Hedman, in the middle of an ongoing Stanley Cup final, has provoked reactions.
“How is it reasonable to do that in the middle of a final,” writes one user.
But above all, Makar pays tribute to his rivals for his words.
