The super talent Moritz Seider opens up about the special relationship with the icon Nicklas Lidström: “It’s very cool”

Nicklas Lidström is a legend within the Detroit Red Wings.
Now he is celebrated by the great talent Moritz Seider.
– We can learn a lot from him, says Seider to Sportbibeln.

Nicklas Lidström is one of Sweden’s greatest hockey players of all time. If not the greatest hockey player of all time. With four Stanley Cup wins, a World Cup gold and an Olympic gold in his trophy cabinet.

The legendary Lidas

“Lidas” spent 20 seasons in the NHL, all in the Detroit Red Wings. During his last six seasons, the Swede was also captain of the club. Before he left Sweden, Lidström played in Västerås IK. After his playing career, which ended in 2012, he was a scout in Detroit for three years.

After a few years outside of hockey, Lidström returned to the Red Wings in 2022, then as vice president for the club’s hockey operations. A role he still holds.
Now Detroit has flown to Sweden for the NHL Global Series in Stockholm. The club will play against the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lidström’s analysis

One who plays in Lidström’s Detroit is Moritz Seider, 22, who is one of the biggest backcourt talents in the NHL. In 2019, Seider was drafted sixth overall by the Red Wings. The following season the German spent in the club’s AHL team, before being loaned to Rögle. Since the 21/22 season, Seider has been playing in the NHL.

The former defender sees a difference between his own game and Seider’s.
– I think the difference is his physical game. I wasn’t much of a physical player and he gets a new layer to his game that way, says Lidas at a press conference.

Seider’s Tribute

The Swede also pays tribute to the young talent.
– He has had a fantastic almost two and a half years in the league, as winner of “Rookie of the Year” his first season. He’s stepped up and become a better player and learned what it’s like to play against the best players every night.
– It takes time as a defender, to play a lot of minutes and to play against the best players, and you have to do it every night. So I think he’s made huge strides for our team. He just gets better and better and is really starting to get warm in his clothes, says Lidström.

Having Nicklas Lidström around him as a great back talent and as a mentor and advisor is nothing Seider complains about.
– It’s very cool, it’s very fun to work with him. Run into him here and there, have some good conversations, and we can definitely learn a lot from him, the 22-year-old told Sportbibeln.
