A low pressure over Greenland pulls up warm winds from Spain to Sweden.
The weather will be dry and sunny in basically the entire country during the coming week, according to SMHI. But it also means the risk of grass fires.
– The forecast is certain, says meteorologist Angelica Lundberg.
SMHI expects bright sun in large parts of the country for most of the week ahead. The temperatures look set to be highest on Friday, with 17 degrees in Stockholm, 14 degrees in Gothenburg and Malmö and 10-11 degrees in Umeå, Skellefteå and Luleå.
– We have had some serious setbacks, but now it looks like spring is taking big steps, says Angelica Lundberg.
Keeps the cold away
The fine weather has its explanation in a high pressure that lies over Sweden.
– There will be sunny days and some heating during the days, and then the temperatures will rise, says Lundberg.
A low pressure over Greenland has a hand in the game. The low pressure pulls up warm air from Spain over the British Isles, and when the low pressure then travels east, the warm air is pushed in over Scandinavia.
The high pressure that is already over Sweden helps to keep the cold away.
– The low pressure is expected to pass north of Iceland and north of Scandinavia due to the high pressure that is above us.
Dry last year’s grass
However, the heat not only brings enjoyment, but also the risk of grass fires when last year’s dry grass is exposed after being covered by snow. SMHI has therefore issued warnings for grass fires in mainland Götaland and in large parts of Svealand, on Öland and Gotland, as well as in Gävleborg County’s coastal area and in the southernmost part of Västernorrland County’s coastal area.
– We get dry and sunny basically the whole country throughout the week, this means that the risk of grass fires is great or very great throughout the week in snow-free parts, says Lundberg.
SMHI urges the public to follow local restrictions on burning.
