Dr. Muhammed Furkan Daşdelen’s success, who ranked 3rd in Turkey in the university entrance exam LYS (Undergraduate Placement Exam) in 2017 and won a place at Medipol University International Faculty of Medicine, was a great inspiration to those who saw it. While studying at the faculty of medicine, Dr. Daşdelen also graduated with a double major in computer engineering, bringing together the two disciplines he studied and carrying out important studies in the field of artificial intelligence in medicine.
“HIS AIM IS TO LIGHTEN THE HEAVY PATIENT BURDEN OF HER COLLEAGUES”
Dr. Daşdelen stated that his goal is to ease the heavy patient load of his colleagues by working on artificial intelligence in health. Dr. Daşdelen, who will continue his education by completing his doctorate in Germany, will be a great example for young people. Expressing that he is very pleased with the education he received at the university, Daşdelen also gave important advice to students who will start university and are in the career selection phase. Also, Dr. Daşdelen, who is only 25 years old, stated that he wants to serve his country after completing his education abroad.
“I DID NOT HAVE MEDICINE IN MIND”
After seeing the university’s opportunities, Dr. Muhammed Furkan Daşdelen stated that he preferred the International Faculty of Medicine, “I chose this university in 2017 as the 3rd in Turkey in the university entrance exam. I had not previously considered medicine. Later, after coming here and seeing the research and double major opportunities, I chose this university. Starting from the first year, I started doing research at the Regenerative and Restorative Medicine Research Center, which was also my biggest reason for choosing this place. I had about 10 articles in this center where I was a researcher for 4 years. Later, I applied to computer engineering for a double major and started studying both at the international faculty of medicine and computer engineering.”
“MY GOAL IS TO WORK IN FIELDS WHERE I CAN USE BOTH MEDICINE AND ENGINEERING”
Stating that he did internships in different parts of the world, Dr. Daşdelen said, “I took part in many projects during my studies. A significant part of these projects were on artificial intelligence in medicine. Thanks to the internships abroad provided by the university, I had the opportunity to do different internships in many parts of the world. I spent the first one in cardiovascular research at Cambridge University. I did the second one in artificial intelligence and image processing in medicine at Munich Technical University and Helmholtz AI. My future goal is to work in areas where I can apply the gains I have gained in both medicine and engineering. For this, I first plan to go to Germany and do my doctorate in the data processing and artificial intelligence program in medicine. Afterwards, I want to specialize in cardiology in England and apply the gains I learned during my doctorate in artificial intelligence in medicine to the field of cardiology.”
“LET THEM RESEARCH THE OPPORTUNITIES OF UNIVERSITIES”
Stating that the education he received in both medicine and engineering was not easy, Daşdelen said, “My advice to students would be to visit schools and evaluate the research infrastructure and opportunities at the school. They should look for competent professors in their fields. My journey was not an easy one. Studying both medicine and engineering required extra sacrifices. First of all, it required a great sacrifice in time. The biggest contribution of the university to me on this path was providing me with a research infrastructure, the opportunity to meet experienced professors and do projects with them, and supporting me with internships abroad. Thanks to this, I had the chance to gain an international network.”
