The strike has begun – major disruptions in commuter train traffic

Greater Stockholm’s local traffic (SL) warns of a difficult morning in public transport after train drivers went on a wild strike on Monday. – It will have a major impact on traffic, says SL’s press manager Andreas Strömberg to TT. Locomotive drivers in the commuter train traffic in Stockholm have gone on a wild strike – an illegal strike organized by individual employees – for three days starting at 3am on Monday night. Early on Monday morning, SL’s press manager Andreas Strömberg says that it has been established that the wild strike will have a major impact. – Right now there are a number of trains out and about, not all of them are standing still. But it will be an awkward situation for the travelers, says Strömberg. Short notice SL has received information from the train operator MTR that it is drivers who should have started work early in the morning who did not show up. It is unclear how many there are, nor is it clear how many more will not show up when their shifts start later in the morning and day. – We will have to cancel at short notice and this will lead to jerky and irregular traffic, says Andreas Strömberg. From 06:00 in the morning, SL has deployed buses that will mainly run to take commuter train travelers to the subway network. But SL recommends those travelers who are able to take alternative routes or means of transport. Strandberg urges travelers to keep up-to-date on the situation via SL’s website and points out that the situation can change quickly because there is great uncertainty about how many drivers are on strike. Discontinued train attendants The reason for the train drivers’ protest action is dissatisfaction that the train attendants have been discontinued, which means solitary work for the drivers. The Seko trade union, which organizes the majority of train drivers, has distanced itself from the strike plans. The decision on the wildcat strike was made on Friday night during a meeting of more than 150 train drivers, according to information on the website organizing the strike.
