The streaming giant starts with advertising

The streaming service Prime Video faces advertising, writes Deadlineand thus becomes part of a growing trend among the streaming giants.
Prime, which is owned by Amazon, announced the change in September this year and now it is clear that the ads will start appearing on January 29 next year.

Advertising will not appear for users in Sweden for now, but well in the US, UK, Germany and Canada, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia later in the year.

More expensive ad-free version

Material purchased or rented by users on the service will not contain advertising, and otherwise the price of the subscription will not change. However, you will be able to buy an ad-free version which is more expensive.

“This will allow us to continue to invest in compelling content and continue to grow that investment over a long period of time,” Prime Video writes in a press release.

Following in the footsteps of competitors

The introduction of advertising as a way to curb subscription loss and increase revenue is not unfamiliar in the streaming market.

Last year, both Netflix and Disney+ launched cheaper advertising versions of their services. Max, formerly HBO Max, did the same back in 2021.
