The strange pictures of Stina Nilsson in the World Cup – which make the expert Björn Ferry shocked: “It’s impossible”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

During the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland, pictures of Stina Nilsson were broadcast that surprised SVT expert Björn Ferry.
It was about a particular detail in the Swede’s shooting.

I’ve never seen that before, it doesn’t work, says Ferry.

Stina Nilsson this year is her third season as a biathlete after her World Cup debut in March 2021. And according to herself, development has progressed since she chose to change sports – not least on the shooting range.

Strange pictures

Her best result since switching to biathlon is the third place she secured in Kontiolahti in March in 2022. In addition to that, she also has a tenth place from the hunt start in Hochfilzen a year ago.

As the World Cup returned to Finland and Kontiolahti, strange images emerged of Stina Nilsson from the shooting range – where she could be seen taking a slightly different approach during her warm-up before the race.

Stina Nilsson stands with her left arm out from the body, and not close to the body, which is the most common way to shoot standing. The SVT expert and former biathlete got it Bjorn Ferry to react.
– I have never seen that before, says Ferry according to Expressen.

“Would be impossible”

Now the Swedish coach has Jean-Marc Chabloz commented on the somewhat strange pictures.
– We started with hunter pose a while ago, it was more like a joke at the beginning. It means that you don’t take support from your left elbow, then you have to hold much more with your right hand. And it becomes a way to be reminded, how much should I hold with my right hand to make good contact with the weapon, he says.

Chabloz also says that this particular technique is not infrequently used during the Swedes’ throw-in.
– And that is something that has grown. Lynn Persson always does it in her insertion routines, Stina from time to time. But it is out of the question to do it during a race, I hope they never do that.

Björn Ferry agrees and believes that the technology is “impossible”.
– We never did that during my time. And it would be impossible to do that during competition. It doesn’t work, he says.
