The ski jumping summer GP competitions scheduled for the coming weekend had to be canceled due to storm damage, the International Skiing and Snowboarding Federation FIS said on its website.
The men’s and women’s competitions had to be jumped on Saturday and Sunday by the Polish legend by Adam Malysz from the eponymous hill in Poland’s Wisla, but the hill is currently in an unusable condition. According to FIS, especially the Vastamäki after the descent suffered severe damage. The hill cannot be repaired quickly enough, but the race organizers need at least two weeks for repair work.
FIS hill boss Sandro Pertile is upset about what happened, but the aim is to organize the competitions in Wisla at a new time on the 14th–15th. September
– This kind of thing happens and we will do everything we can with the local race organizers to repair the damage and we will postpone the Polish races, which are particularly important for fans and teams, to a new time in September, Pertile said.
Mäkisirkus is currently in Courchevel, France, where they jump on Tuesday and Wednesday. Among the Finns, there is last season’s domestic number one Niko Kytösaho.
