The fire-ravaged Stena Scandica during the night did not quite keep the speed that had been calculated, but on Tuesday morning the ship finally docked in Nynäshamn.
At lunchtime on Monday, a fire was discovered in a refrigerated container on a truck on a car deck, causing the vessel to lose power.
The own fire brigade on board managed to get the fire under control and was able to announce at 17.30 that it was out. The depowered vessel continued to drift, prompting the initiation of an evacuation. However, it could be blown off after personnel got two of the main engines up to speed and were able to start driving towards land.
32 of the 241 passengers on board managed to be evacuated, most to Destination Gotland’s M/S Visby, according to Stena.
