Orange day was created on the initiative of UN Woman to draw attention to violence against women and girls. And for the women in Karlstad’s Zontagrupp 1, it was obvious to demonstrate during the Friday evening.
– Yes, and this year we are focusing on digital violence against women and girls, says Zontak woman Karin Wistrand Kardemark.
Orange day is part of a larger campaign against men’s violence against women that the Zonta groups run. During the period 25 November to 10 December, Zonta says NO takes place, where several walks and demonstrations are carried out. At the same time, the groups collect money to support several different projects that work for gender equality and human rights with a special focus on women’s vulnerability in terms of finances as well as health, education, violence, child marriage and human trafficking.
