In May last year, residents of an apartment building in Sundsvall smelled a stench from a neighboring apartment and raised the alarm to the property owner.
When the host entered the seemingly abandoned apartment, an unpleasant discovery was made. Among rubbish, debris and furniture, a dead cat was found hanging over the armrest of an armchair covered with a curtain, Home and Rent reports.
A police report on suspected animal cruelty was drawn up, but the preliminary investigation was dropped because no crime could be proven.
The former tenant, who has still not been found, was recently sentenced in Sundsvall District Court to pay SEK 63,000 to the property owner for moving and cleaning costs.
