The state wants more time – a postponement is granted by the district court

In May, the four Sami villages – Ran, Sirges, Unna Tjerusj and Baste sued the state, where they claim that they have the exclusive right to allow small game hunting and fishing above the cultivation limit.

A few weeks ago, the announcement came from the state that they are disputing all lawsuits and that they want time for further investigations into the claim of ancient monuments.

Now the Gällivare district court is announcing, according to the Sirén news agency, that the state has until January 31, 2025 to come back with its position and evidence in the disputes with Sirges, Unna Tjerusj and Baste.

As for Ran’s Sami village, the Lycksele district court has yet to decide on an end date for the state’s response.

In the past, Talma Samiby has also sued the state, and there Talma has requested a delay with its statement, but the district court has not yet processed the application.
