Every year, the aid agency Sida spends roughly 30 million of its total aid budget of 56 billion kroner on evaluating the aid work, according to the National Audit Office. The idea is that all the 47 billion kroner that goes to international aid each year should be followed up.
According to the National Audit Office, follow-up is difficult to implement. The aid is often carried out over a long period of time and in collaboration with various actors. It is also difficult to gain insight into the environments where aid ends up.
Shortcomings in the investigations can lead to the Riksdag not receiving reliable information and the government not being able to control aid based on results, writes the National Audit Office.
The review should be completed in March next year.
