The end of Ramadan could well be on March 29. In this case, the Eid El-Fitr festival will be celebrated on March 30, but it is also the date of the time change. The end of Ramadan 2025 falls the day before the passage from winter time to summer time.
According to astronomical calculations, the end of Ramadan is set for Saturday March 29. This therefore means that Eid El-Fitr, the party that celebrates the end of this holy month, will take place the next day, Sunday, March 30. It is also important to know that these dates are fixed by calculations, and not by observing the moon during the night of doubt. Indeed, tradition has it that Muslims observe the sky in order to know if the end of Ramadan has arrived, depending on the appearance or not of the crescent moon in the sky. Indeed, Ramadan corresponds to the ninth month of the lunar calendar of Islam. It is not linked to the calendar we use on a daily basis. The great mosque of Paris fixed the night of doubt on March 29, and if no crescent moon is observed in the sky, the end of Ramadan will be postponed the next day, Sunday, March 30, and Eid on Monday, March 31.
But according to astronomical calculations, on which many Muslims rely, Eid El-Fitr will be well celebrated on March 30. For practicing Muslims, this day of celebration is marked by a prayer at the mosque, exchanges of vows, pastries, tea and small gifts.
The time change the same day
But now, if Eid El-Fitr is well celebrated on March 30, it will be the same day as the time change. Sunday, March 30, we will change time in the night. At 2 a.m., it will actually be 3 am. The awakening will therefore sound technically an hour earlier and the sun will set an hour later. But it is important to know that all countries do not change an hour. It is therefore possible that two countries on the same meridian, which determines the time zones, are not at the same time. Muslims in countries where the time change is therefore shifted by an hour compared to the countries where it is not in force. In Europe, almost all countries are changing time. On the other hand, in Africa, no country, with the exception of Egypt, practices it. Russia, Asia, Oceania, South America and Central America (with rare exceptions) do not change the hour either. Finally, with rare exceptions, only Europe, the United States, Canada (in part), Chile, Paraguay and Egypt still change time.
