The start of the most successful film series of all time, which is still absolutely brilliant

The start of the most successful film series of all

Superhero films existed before 2008. However, the film, which was released in cinemas in May 2008, would change modern blockbuster cinema more than any other. We’re talking about Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. The cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was directed by Elf director Jon Favreau.

Tonight you can watch Iron Man on TV.

Superhero milestone on TV today: That’s what the Marvel blockbuster Iron Man is about

Multimillionaire Tony Stark works in the defense industry and is kidnapped during a weapons test in Afghanistan. It’s not superpowers that free him from the frightening situation, but rather his inventiveness: Tony succeeds high-tech iron armor to build. Back in the USA, a new danger threatens him because his shady business partner Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) wants to get his hands on the suit.

Since Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has enjoyed unprecedented success, which continues even after sixteen years. Most recently, Deadpool & Wolverine was released, which grossed $1.3 billion. In total, the MCU already includes 35 films that have brought in 31 billion at the box office.

But the massive success has been viewed critically for years. Marvel is pushing other films out of cinemas and has more in common with amusement parks than with film art, as Martin Scorsese noted in 2019, sparking a major discussion among filmmakers.

Iron Man is still one of the best Marvel films of all time

Master director Christopher Nolan, on the other hand, appreciates the Marvel films. In February, he said that casting Downey Jr. as Iron Man in particular was a bold decision that changed Hollywood forever. A completely different actor was originally intended for the role.

Meanwhile, Downey Jr. has taken off the red armor. He will return in a new costume. This time as the villain Doctor Doom, for whose role he had already applied for over 19 years ago. Can he be as convincing as a villain as well as a hero? The footsteps are big, after all Iron Man is still one of the best films from the MCU. It has an approval rating of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, placing it in third place among the best Marvel films.
