After years in the production phase, a first trailer for the new Shogun series from the US broadcaster FX was finally released at the beginning of November. It announces epic samurai action in Japan in the year 1600, which will also be shown here. Now it is clear from when you can enjoy Shogun on Disney+.

New Shogun series starts on Disney+ in February 2024

As a Disney press release shows, the 10-part samurai epic starts in this country on February 27, 2024 on Disney+. It starts with the first two episodes, after which a new episode is released every week.

Shogun is based on a novel from 1975, which was adapted as a series in 1980 with cinema legend Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai). The new version from FX is a 10-episode mini-series for which, among other things, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power director Charlotte Brändström was behind the camera.

In the story of the new edition, the British navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) finds himself with a Dutch warship on the way to Japan. He ends up stranded on the coast and ends up as a prisoner in the court of the daimyo Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada from John Wick: Chapter 4). After he did that Trust of the mighty feudal lords and falls in love with the samurai lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), he has to make a difficult decision in order to survive.
