Over a year ago we met Daemon, Viserys and Rhaenyra Targaryen: House of the Dragon tells the prequel to Game of Thrones. Season 1 of the fantasy series was enthusiastically welcomed by critics and fans. The problem: Filming the series is extremely time-consuming, which lengthens the waiting time for new episodes.
However, this didn’t have too much of an impact on the start of season 2: HBO boss Casey Bloys announced the surprisingly early time period at an official event, reports the Hollywood Reporter. Season 2 has been shot and is in post-production.
When is House of the Dragon season 2 coming?
According to the industry journal’s report House of the Dragon Season 2 will start in early summer 2024, i.e. between the end of May and the end of June next year. The worst forecasts assumed a wait until autumn 2024. According to those responsible, House of the Dragon finished filming before the Hollywood strikes began.
What is House of the Dragon about?
The new Game of Thrones series takes place around 200 years before the original and is dedicated to the rise and fall of House Targaryen. So we won’t see Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), but we will see her no less charismatic ancestors.
The focus is on Rhaenyra Targaryen (young: Milly Alcock, older: Emma D’Arcy), daughter of King Viserys (Paddy Considine), who sees herself as the rightful successor to the throne of Westeros. However, as the trailer suggests, the traditional line of succession is hostile to a woman’s claim to power. In the long term, the series will therefore be about the so-called Dance of the Dragons go, a devastating civil war among the Targaryens.
