The stars’ beautiful tribute – the Öberg sisters in tears after Mona Brorsson’s future announcement: “Hard to describe”

Mona Brorsson ends her career.
Then the Swedish biathlon stars burst into tears.
– The work she has done for the team is difficult to describe, says Elvira Öberg.

Ten years have passed since Mona Brorsson made her debut in the World Cup, and she has played an important part in the national biathlon team that has made an absolutely incredible journey over the past decade. From barely getting a team together in relays, to having some of the world’s best biathletes.

Ending career

Mona Brorsson has often been called the mother of the team, and has taken good care of super talents such as Hanna Öberg and Elvira Öberg, both of whom have grown into Olympic and WC heroes. During his career, there have been two Olympic medals, one WC medal and three European Championship golds for Brorsson. But there won’t be any more.

This weekend it was announced that this WC was the last in the career for Brorsson, who is retiring after this season.

– I will run the season. It’s been a decision I’ve been mulling over for quite some time. It is time to hang up the rifle, says Brorsson.

The stars in tears

Mona Brorsson has been hugely praised by the Swedish people after the announcement, but even in the national team, Brorsson’s announcement has been received with sadness. Elvira Öberg was in tears when she told SVT about her feelings before Brorsson’s departure.

– It’s really sad. She has been the mother of the team all the way. The work she has done for the team is difficult to describe, says a teary-eyed Elvira Öberg.

Elvira’s older sister Hanna was also moved by the news.

– It is very special. We are all very moved. Mona has been with me from the beginning. She is the glue that holds us together, says Hanna Öberg.
