The star opens for a return after a full 13 years in the NHL – can play in the Hockeyallsvenskan(!): “It settles for me”

Jakob Silfverberg has 13 NHL seasons behind him.
Now he opens for games in Sweden – and the Hockeyallsvenskan.
– It pays off for me, that’s the goal, he says.

Jakob Silfverberg is, when it comes to games in Sweden, strongly associated with Brynäs. It was there that he completely dominated in his last season in Sweden, when it was a whopping 13 goals and 20 points in 17 games when Brynäs won SM gold in 2012.

Opens for return

But immediately after that, Silfverberg turned to North America, and since then Brynä’s reality has become completely different. In the spring, after a completely miserable season, Brynäs was forced to qualify to stay in the SHL, and once there the Malmö Redhawks became too tough. Brynäs left the SHL for the first time ever.

At the same time, Jakob Silfverberg has been a regular NHL player year after year, first in the Ottawa Senators, but above all in the Anaheim Ducks, where he even played with an “A” on his chest. But Silfverberg only has one year left on his contract, and after that many Brynäs supporters have hoped to see him back in Gävle. But the team no longer plays in the SHL.

“It makes up for it for me”

However, it does not matter, according to Silfverberg himself. He is determined to return home to Brynäs at some point – perhaps already after the upcoming NHL season.

– It would be incredibly fun to do a season in Brynäs, says Silfverberg to SVT.

And Silfverberg’s big heart for Brynäs does not seem to have diminished because the club plays in the Hockeyallsvenskan. Instead, he states that it makes up for it completely.

– To make a real effort here at home, then you’ll see if it’s in the Allsvenskan or the elite series, that makes up for it for me, but that’s what the goal is, he says.
