“Hi corner. I unfortunately have to announce that I have tested positive for covid. I have isolated myself and hoped that I could play, but unfortunately I still feel bad and not in shape to give my best”, he writes.
According to The Telegraph, the Croatian would have trained with the Serbian world star, and vaccine opponent, Novak Djokovic until the start of the tournament.
The 33-year-old Cilic reached the final at Wimbledon 2017 where superstar Roger Federer became too tough. Cilic becomes the second Croat to withdraw after Borna Coric was forced to give up with a shoulder injury. Cilic is replaced by the Portuguese Nuno Borges.
