  • The spring increase in whooping cough in Sweden: 241 cases

Since 2020, the number of cases of whooping cough has been at a low and steady level. Until this spring.

The Public Health Agency reports today that the number of cases has risen to 241 so far this year. 28 of the cases concern children under the age of one, which is also the group that is hit the hardest.

The increase is recognizable from the rest of Europe, where there was a strong increase.

    – It is likely that the number of cases of whooping cough will continue to increase. Vaccination during pregnancy provides good protection to babies right from birth. The protection is then topped up when the child is vaccinated at three months of age. You should also avoid babies meeting people who have a cough or runny nose outside the family, says state epidemiologist Magnus Gisslén.
