The speed limit has been changed since September 2 on this highway.

Do you also find yourself on certain journeys no longer knowing how fast you are allowed to drive? With the constant changes in speed limits on the roads, it is increasingly difficult not to repeatedly glance at your speedometer or GPS to find out the value not to exceed. It is tiring and, let’s be honest, a bit dangerous when you know how much attention is required to drive a vehicle. This is even more the case at high speeds, particularly on motorways, which are not immune to this phenomenon of varying authorised speeds: sometimes 130, sometimes 110, sometimes 130…

But the lowering of the speed limit on motorways is sometimes even more significant. This has been the case since September 2 on one of the busiest motorways in France: the A13. Running between Paris and Caen, over 225 kilometers, the Normandy motorway has recently been subject to a drastic reduction in speed on one of its sections. It is on the Rouen side, in Seine-Maritime, that motorists have been asked to slow down significantly since the end of the summer holidays.

Beware if you exceed 90 km/h on the section between exit 23 (Rouen-Ouest) and the A13/A139 interchange. The renovation of a bridge, located at kilometer 116 of the A13, has prompted SANEF, the company that operates this motorway, to lower the speed in both directions in order to secure the work zone. While the three lanes will still be in place at this location during the construction, their narrowing required further limiting the speed of traffic.

Drivers who are used to driving on this part of the A13 will have to be extra vigilant to avoid breaking the law. Speeding on a 90km/h lane is punishable by a minimum fine of 68 euros and the loss of at least one point on their driving licence unless the speed is less than 5km/h. Although this new 90 km/h speed limit is only temporary, it will still last two and a half months, until 15 November, while the work is being completed.
