SVT has spoken to Mats Danielsson, an expert on hospitality and former chairman of the municipal council in Eksjö for the Moderates, about why it is so important to speak the right way.
– The Riksdag is Sweden’s highest decision-making body, and it is not that you are arrogant towards each other, but that you have respect for the office. It is the office you greet, not the person. The speaker only asks the members to respect the office, he says.
Why do you think the party leaders forgot?
– I think it happened because of the hot air. A new government has been appointed and there is a lot to think about. I also think that everyone wants to show their front feet and then the debate gets heated and you lose the label a little.
Is it usual for the speaker to step in and interrupt like this?
– I don’t think so – now it’s far too many and I think Andreas Norlén wanted to set the bar. He shows the new ones what level he intends to maintain. The speaker knows where the cabinet should be, says Danielsson.
