The Spanish performance against Sweden before the WC semis – and the blue-yellow answer: “We can see them in the eyes”

Sweden is singled out as favorite against Spain.
Now comes the Spanish performance that puts all the pressure on Blågult.
– They have an obligation to win, says national team captain Jorge Vilda at the press conference.

It’s time for the WC semi-final and undefeated Sweden take on Spain for a duel for the final ticket. If you look at the statistics, Blågult go in as big favorites against the Spanish team.

Sweden favorite

Sweden has never lost to Spain in a women’s football match. They have met 11 times and Blågult can show an impressive goal difference of 33-7.

Therefore, Spain chooses to transfer all favoritism to Sweden before the meeting.
– We have the opportunity to win against them for the first time in history and I feel that, because of their position, they have a greater obligation to do so. But I am also convinced, and I believe it, that we can look them straight in the eye tomorrow. And if we do what we have to, Spain will win the match, says the national team captain Jorge Vilda at a press conference.

Spain’s play

The Swedish camp then had to respond to the Spanish play and the striker Fridolina Rolfö showed great humility.
– I don’t know which team is the favorite in this match. Both teams have reached the semi-finals, and only good teams do that. I have no opinion on that. But I know they have a good team, she says at the press conference.

Another interesting detail is that Spain lost against Japan by a whopping 4-0 in the group stage and Sweden just beat Japan 2-1 in the World Cup quarter-finals. But in a semi-final such numbers rarely mean that much.
– It is clear that we have analyzed Sweden, we know what we have to do both defensively and offensively, our game is recognizable and we will not budge from it. I’m sure they will demand the best version of us, says Spanish national team captain Vilda to the journalists on site.
– There are small details in matches like this, we have to be concentrated all the time because mentally there are several different matches in the match when you play. But I like that my team has managed to progress regardless of what they have faced.
