The Brit Jared Harris is known to many as a character actor and you can’t ignore him, especially in the series sector: He led hits like The Terror and Chernobyl helped shape Mad Men and Fringe – Borderline Cases of the FBI and was in Netflix’s The Crown as well as recently in the sci-fi opus Foundation.
Jared Harris also played iconic roles in film, ranging from villain Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2: Shadow Game to a Spielberg role in Lincoln and appearances in the zombie actioner Resident Evil: Apocalypse and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. So he doesn’t have to hide from his famous father. But does that also mean that he would like to be in the Harry Potter series, for which the children’s casting has just begun?
Jared Harris won’t be Dumbledore – because he doesn’t like Harry Potter’s series remake
After the death of Richard Harris in 2002, there were many candidates for Dumbledore to play Harry Potter’s headmaster in the next six films before Michael Gambon landed the part. After Jude Law played a young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts series, fans are eagerly waiting to see who will don the pointy hat and half-moon glasses in the series reboot.
In an interview with The Independent, Jared Harris was asked about his interest in playing Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. His answer was clear “No thanks”. What’s more: He apparently thinks the idea of remaking the series is completely pointless:
I mean: why should you? [Harry Potter-Remake] make? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic – leave them alone.
So we probably won’t see Jared Harris moving into the new Hogwarts series. But not everyone has such aversion to the series: Sirius actor Gary Oldman recently recommended himself as a potential series Dumbledore.
