The son is a hostage in Gaza: “Scary that this could be the last chance”

Sigalit Cohen’s son Eliya was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 at the Nova music festival and taken to Gaza as a hostage.

– We have to do everything for them to come home. The hostage has been there for far too long, she tells SVT’s team, Middle East correspondent Samir Abu Eid and photographer Antonia Sehlstedt, on location in Jerusalem.

  • Hopeful Blinken travels to Israel – at the same time, new talks about a cease-fire in Gaza await

  • There are now 115 Israeli hostages in Gaza – some are suspected to be dead but most are believed to be alive.

    – What is happening must not happen, an entire nation is suffering in Gaza and 115 civilians and innocent hostages. The world must intervene, says Sigalit Cohen.

Blinken: “Best and maybe last chance”

And attempts to mediate the conflict and bring about a ceasefire in Gaza continue. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived this weekend in Israel to try to “finalize” the negotiations on a ceasefire.

The ongoing talks may be the last chance to get the hostages home, and reach a ceasefire, according to Blinken.

    – This is probably the best and perhaps last chance to get the hostages home, to get a ceasefire and create a path towards lasting peace and security for everyone, he says.

More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza so far, according to figures from the area’s Hamas-controlled health authorities.
