Continuity or renewal? The socialists will choose their new chief in June, during a congress, announced this Sunday, February 16, the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure. He will himself be a candidate for his succession, after already seven years at the head of his political party.
“I hope that in the first half of it, we can finish with this congress and that we can decide the line well,” he said on the set of France 3, saying that he had informed the “chiefs” of the different sensitivities of the sensitivities of the left that “it will be in June”.
“Go to the end of what we have undertaken”
“I will be a candidate for my own succession because I want to go to the end of what we have undertaken and allow us to find the left, find the electricity and voters who have been lacking,” added the one who is disputed in internal by a line wishing the final break with the rebellious France of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Asked about the request of former president François Hollande to give way, he replied that the latter wanted “the renewal by returning himself, offering to be the new head of the Socialist Party”, which he has already directed for ten years. “I believe that this is not quite what we have undertaken for seven years and I do not believe that it is also the will of the socialists,” added Olivier Faure.
During the last congress, in Marseille in early 2023, the results of his election as a first secretary had been challenged by his competitor, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. Finally, the latter, in favor of an anti-LFI line, had been appointed first delegated secretary.
