The Social Democrats report Ebba Busch to the Constitution Committee after the KD leader spread incorrect information about the new law on anonymous witnesses.
On social media, Busch wrote, among other things: “Now you who have been the victim of a crime can testify anonymously”.
– It’s careless and it’s nonchalant. Ebba Busch must take responsibility for this and therefore it is KU’s business to review it, says Annika Strandhäll, Member of Parliament for S, who is behind the report.
On New Year’s Day, the new and debated law on anonymous witnesses in criminal cases came into force.
The law has been welcomed by, among others, the Christian Democrats – which prompted party leader Ebba Busch to write a few lines on social media.
But somewhere along the way something went wrong.
The legal text does not mention the plaintiff, accused of crime, at all. The investigation that led to the new law concluded that only witnesses should be heard anonymously.
The criticism against Busch was not long in coming – and 15 hours after publication, the posts were removed. The party regretted the incident and blamed “the human factor”.
KU notifies the Government
On Friday afternoon, the Social Democrats announced that they have reported the government to the Constitution Committee.
The report questions, among other things, what routines the government and the Government Office have to ensure that correct information about current laws is published to citizens.
“Giving wrong information about a new legislation is particularly serious and cannot be considered to live up to the constitutional requirements that are incumbent on the government’s ministers,” writes Strandhäll in the report.
TV4 Nyheterna has contacted Ebba Busch (KD), who declines comment.
