In twelve hours, three people were killed in the latest in a series of acts of violence in Sweden.
Now the Social Democrats want the military to be deployed to deal with the wave of violence.
– It is an exceptional situation, a national crisis, says S leader Magdalena Andersson.
Yesterday evening’s fatal shooting at the Mälarhöjdens IP was followed by another fatal shooting in Jordbro south of Stockholm. During the morning, the police confirmed that a 25-year-old woman died in an explosion at Storvreta outside Uppsala.
Three people killed in the space of twelve hours have led to strong reactions.
– It is a deeply tragic development, said Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer in Nyhetsmorgon.
The S requirement: Deploy the military
Now the Social Democrats are demanding that the government take a tougher stance against the wave of violence.
– It is an exceptional situation, a national crisis. The government must deal with this crisis here and now, she tells TV4 Nyheterna.
Among other things, the Social Democrats want the military to be deployed to deal with the serious situation. Magdalena Andersson states that the Swedish Armed Forces can contribute with transport and technical assistance.
– But also with surveillance that the police do, even if that would require a change in the law. This is what the government should do here and now.
Magdalena Andersson also demands that the government request police assistance from the neighboring Nordic countries.
– The government must put other tasks aside and work with and focus on this, she says.
