The soccer researcher on the development of the World Cup game: “The game is much faster today”

Helena Andersson, with a past as a player in Skellefteåklubben Morön BK, studies how girls who are active in the national team train and how well it correlates with what is required when there is a match. What she has seen is that there is too little training on high-speed runs compared to how it looks in matches, something that increases the risk of injury.

– The players often feel that they have tough training, which they also have, but you miss a bit of this high-speed running that is now required at international senior level, Andersson says.

Hear the football researcher about how training needs to be adapted to the higher tempo.
