The snow moves in over Sweden: Worst in the mountains

During On Wednesday, snow is expected to move in across the country. There is also a risk of strong winds and icy conditions.
– It is important to keep an eye on the forecast going forward if you are going out on the road on Wednesday, says Peter Kondrup, meteorologist at TV4 Nyheterna.

On Wednesday morning, snowfall of up to 10-20 cm is expected in the mountains at the same time as strong winds move in. In the middle of the day on Wednesday, it will snow in the whole of Norrland, inner and western Svealand and northwestern Götaland.

– It will probably be worst in the mountains where the snow comes in combination with strong wind, says Peter Kondrup, meteorologist at TV4 Nyheterna.

In many other places in Norrland and northern Svealand, 5-10 cm of snow is expected. The rest of Svealand and northern and inner Götaland will receive less snow.

– It is difficult to say how much snow will settle, says Kondrup.

During the evening it moves to the eastern parts of the country but continues to bring snow showers into the mountains. The snow then changes to rain in several places in the south.

Icy and strong winds

In Norrland, difficult road conditions and occasional heavy snowfall are expected. According to forecasts, fresh to strong winds are moving in and there is also a risk of poor visibility.

In Svealand, northern and inner Götaland, there is a risk of slipping as the snowfall can partly turn into rain and fall on cold roads and then result in icy conditions.

– It is important to keep an eye on the forecast going forward if you are going out on the road on Wednesday. No warnings have been issued yet.

Later this week

In southern Sweden it will be considerably milder until Thursday with plus degrees up to southernmost Norrland.

– In the far south, it can be around 10 plus degrees.

Already during Friday, colder air begins to move south again with a northerly wind, but it is still a few plus degrees in the southernmost parts of Sweden.
