Now the snow is moving in over Sweden.

An orange warning for snowfall has been issued for parts of Götaland’s east coast. There is a warning of very limited accessibility on roads and delays in bus, train and air traffic as well as canceled departures.

SMHI also warns of power outages in certain areas.

In parts of Götaland’s east coast, there was a warning of snow during the night towards Saturday. It was about a stretch from Oskarshamn and a bit south.

In Småland, there was 25 centimeters of snow.

– We have issued a warning yesterday for parts of Kalmar because it is partly the first snowfall of the season in southern Sweden. We have received snow measurements now during the morning and during the night there has been over 25 centimeters of snow in Oskarshamn, says Therese Fougman, meteorologist at SMHI.

The police in the South region report that there have been several weather-related traffic accidents during the night to Saturday.

– It was slippery in the entire region last night and we had three traffic accidents that were directly linked to slippery and snow, says Sara Andersson, press spokesperson in the South region and continues:

– We urge the public to exercise caution and stick to the speed that the surface allows.

Jakob Sundell, operations leader at the rescue service in Västervik, urges the public to stay off the roads if they have the opportunity.

– So far, it’s pretty calm, take it easy. But there can be accidents and queues, it is important to be warmly dressed and to follow the weather. We expect the snowy weather to continue here in Västervik during the afternoon.

“A new portion of snow is coming”

But later on Saturday, the snowfall will continue to be heaviest in these areas, but will later gradually ease off during the evening.

It is the first snowfall of the season in southern Sweden.

– There have been some snow flurries now. This consistent snowfall will come in during the day. Then a new batch of snow will arrive during the night and tomorrow it will snow occasionally for most of the day, says Therese Fougman.

SMHI urges everyone to be careful and think one step further.

Snow chaos cancels Christmas market

The snow has moved in over parts of the country. Now the Christmas market in Bråbo is cancelled, writes Barometern.

– It started snowing yesterday at 6 pm and we have received 30-40 centimeters of snow during the night. The forecast says we will get another 20 centimeters during the day, Helen Rennie-Smith, chairman of the Bråbo interest association to the Barometer.

The canceled Christmas market is a hard blow to the interest association.

– It is such a disappointment. We started preparing this in August. We have 2000-3000 people who usually come. It’s a big break for us because the Christmas market is our most important source of income, says Helen Rennie-Smith.

The heavy snowfall that has moved in over Kalmar has meant that hundreds of households have suffered power cuts. By eleven o’clock around 800 of Eon’s customers had been affected, reports say P4 Kalmar.

Some households have been without power for almost eight hours.

– The reason for the power outages is that trees have become heavy with snow and then they have folded and laid over wires, says Björn Persson on Eon’s press call to the radio.
