The smell of cannabis in the surroundings of the race

The race of the F1 tour will be held this weekend in Las Vegas, where the use of cannabis is legal.

The Formula 1 series has landed in Las Vegas, USA this weekend. Although the world championship streak can already culminate in this race, the events on the track are not the only topic that will be talked about at the Vegas GP.

Over the weekend, several drivers have expressed their annoyance at the fact that the strong smell of cannabis wafts over the race site.

One of the people who spoke about it is Red Bull’s star driver Max Verstappenwho has a chance to secure a fourth consecutive world title already in Las Vegas.

– Today it smelled pretty good. I was like a cloud in the car (“quite high”), the Dutch driver joked to the Daily Expressen by to the media of his home country.

Also sitting behind the wheel of Williams Franco Colapinto was eager to joke about it.

– Yes, there was a smell of “grass”. If the drivers were tested for doping now, I think we would all get a positive test, Colapinto interrupted.

Brittilehti points out, however, that the FIA’s anti-doping regulations prohibit the use of drugs by drivers and there are no indications that the drivers are in danger on the track.

The smell also annoys Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez.

– Around the track, the smell of marijuana is very noticeable throughout the night. I’m already a bit tired of it – the amount is unbelievable, says Perez.

Las Vegas is located in the state of Nevada, where the use of cannabis is legal.

Mercedes gassed up for the pole position in Saturday’s qualifying George Russell. Verstappen starts from the fifth grid. Sauber’s Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas received a grid penalty and therefore starts at the back of the group. The competition will take place on Sunday morning Finnish time.
