BankID requirements will be introduced at Blocket on 1 June

In the past, when placing an ad or starting a conversation in Blocket’s messaging service, you have been able to identify yourself in two different ways: either with BankID or SMS.

But now there will be a change in that.

– As of June 1, 2024, it will no longer be possible to verify yourself using SMS, but everyone who wants to be able to place an ad and send messages on Blocket will have to verify themselves with mobile BankID, says Jessica Cervinthe company’s customer security manager, i a press release.

The hope is that this will make the platform more secure and make it harder for fraudsters to engage in illegal behavior.

– In recent years, we have gradually increased the requirements for verification and we have seen very positive results both in the form of increased security and positive reactions from our users. Therefore, we have now chosen to extend the requirements for verification with mobile BankID to apply to the entire platform, says Cervin further.

The block: “We regret that it limits some”

In the fall of 2023, however, Blocket stated that it had no plans to expand the BankID requirement because it would exclude many users.

– For example, people who do not have a Swedish social security number or some elderly people who do not have a BankID, Jessica Cervin said We Car Owners then.

When News24 now Blocket asks about this very thing – that, for example, older people without a BankID will not be able to use the platform – Cervin replies:

– We regret that it limits some users, but the absolute majority of our users are currently logged in with BankID.
