Two siblings from Uppsala have requested assistance compensation for days when they were on holiday abroad.

In total, they defrauded the Swedish Social Insurance Agency of SEK 9.6 million and are convicted of gross fraud, Upsala Nya Tidning reports.

A woman and her younger brother have for some time been employed as personal assistants by a relative of theirs.

According to the verdict in the Uppsala district court, the siblings have submitted incorrect time reports about when they have worked for the relative. Among other things, they have requested compensation for days when they were on holiday abroad.

They have also had other jobs alongside their jobs as personal assistants. According to the prosecutor’s estimate, they had had to work basically around the clock to cope with both the personal assistance and the other tasks.

Other people have instead carried out the work at the relative’s home.

The 43-year-old sister is sentenced to prison for two years and nine months. The brother, aged 36, will be jailed for one year and nine months.
