Protests against the Damascus administration continue in the province of Suwayda in southern Syria. Due to the protests that have been going on for 2 weeks, the shopkeepers closed their shutters. The protests, demanding the resignation of Syrian President Bashar Assad, started 2 weeks ago in the provinces of Deraa and Suwayda, where the Druze population is concentrated.
According to information obtained from local sources, the demonstrations that started on 17 August in Suveyda, which is under the control of the Syrian army, continued with anti-government slogans in Kerame Square in the city center today.
Assad’s resignation was requested
Protesters gathered in the square demanded the resignation of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Hundreds of demonstrators, carrying banners in Arabic such as “Long live free Syria” and “We want to establish a state of law and equal citizenship”, chanted “Bashar, get out with Russia and Iran” in solidarity with the province of Idlib in the northwest of the country.
TRADES SHUT CLOSED
In addition, the people in the city center supported the demonstrations by lowering the shutters of their shops today.
One day after the decision of the Damascus administration to increase fuel oil on 16 August, demonstrations started in many points, especially in the provinces of Deraa and Suveyda. (AA)
