Tuesday October 22, the Hoche district, in Grenoble, was marked by a new tragedy: gunfire cost the life of a teenager and injured a second.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, emergency services went to the Hoche district, a major drug trafficking point in Grenoble. Once they arrived, they were able to see the extent of the damage: gunfire caused the death of a 15-year-old boy and an injured 17-year-old.

The youngest, hit in the head, unfortunately did not survive his injuries. According to Grenoble’s deputy public prosecutor, François Touret de Coucy, the teenager was not unknown to the police: he had in the past been convicted of drug trafficking and receiving property from unauthorized transfer of narcotics. Under placement in the Corenc EPE, in Isère, he was declared a runaway on October 22 at 5:45 p.m., according to the prosecution. His judicial control prohibited him from appearing in the Carrare district of Echirolles and in the Hoche district, where the shooting took place.

According to the newspaper France 3 Régions, the second victim, hit in the thigh, was transported to the Grenoble-Alpes hospital center. The deputy city prosecutor indicates that he was also known to the justice services: he had recently been the subject of a “conviction for acts of concealment of theft and carrying a category D weapon”.

An attack perpetrated from a scooter

Still according to him, during the attack, the teenagers were targeted by two individuals who were traveling on scooters. Placed at Place André-Malraux, they did not hesitate to fire, half a dozen times, against the teenagers. They would have used at least one handgun, according to information from Dauphiné Libéré. The account of the modus operandi suggests that the attack was planned well in advance. The perpetrators having managed to escape, the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) was seized of the investigation.

This tragedy is added to the long list of episodes of gun violence linked to drug trafficking in the city of Grenoble. Since the start of the year, the metropolis has been the victim of around twenty attacks, the level is such that the authorities go so far as to speak of a “gang war”.
