He is one of Swedish hockey’s big profiles.
But even so, Pekka Lindmark was completely snubbed during the big anniversary year.
– I must have done something bad, he admits in an interview.
Hockey goaltenders don’t always get the big limelight. Just ask Tommy Salo which was completely overlooked when Sweden’s best hockey goalkeeper was to be named at the “Hockey Gala of the Times” in 2022.
Pekka crazy
Also ask Pekka Lindmark which was completely erased when the powerful cohort “56” was to be widely celebrated. It was in 2016 that all Swedish athletes born in 1956 were to be celebrated on the 60th anniversary.

It is a very special year in Swedish sports and big names such as Björn Borg, Linda Haglund, Ingemar Stenmark, Thomas Wassberg and Frank Andersson is usually highlighted when talking about the 56s. But there are also many more sports heroes from that year and one of them is the goalkeeper hero Lindmark.
“Had no idea”
He won double WC gold and four SM gold during his successful career and is considered one of Swedish hockey’s best goalkeepers of all time. Therefore, when SVT was going to do a tribute program to 1956, it was entirely appropriate that they interviewed “Pekka”, or Peter as he is actually called.

But when the program was then shown on SVT, the hockey goalie was completely cut out and once again it was Borg, Haglund, Stenmark, Wassberg and Andersson who got the big spotlight.
– Yes. I had no idea. I must have done something bad, he says in an interview with Expressen in 2016.

Criticism of SVT
Pekka Lindmark admits that he was surprised not to see his face in the tribute program. When he took time off from work to go down to Stockholm for a full day and answer questions – completely unnecessarily.
But he is still not very disappointed that he was poked.
– I haven’t even cared about it so it doesn’t matter one bit. I survive that. If I’m being honest, I think it’s quite nice not to be involved, he says to the evening newspaper.
After Lindmark has seen the program, he is not particularly impressed with the final product and directs clear criticism at SVT.
– Of the episodes I have seen, I think they have been somewhat long-winded programs. They have filled the time with a lot of nonsense, says Pekka in the interview and continues:
– Interviewing politicians and the like, does it have anything to do with sport? Perhaps. But from what I have seen, I think that the practitioners should be praised more, instead of (Prime Minister Stefan) Löfven and everyone being allowed to talk about what was in Sweden during that time. It is definitely not a sports program.
