There have been several scandals during the World Cup in Qatar. One of the teams that stood for incredible performances and knocked out Spain, among others, is Morocco. This after penalty kicks.
And during Saturday’s quarter-final against Portugal, it happened again.
After an even start to the match, striker Youssef En-Nesyri was able to powerfully head in the lead goal and huge cheers erupted.
Portugal’s world star, Cristiano Ronaldo, started on the bench again but was substituted early in the second half. At the end of the match, Walid Cheddira received his second yellow card and was sent off and the task did not get any easier.
Despite enormous pressure from the Portuguese, Morocco was able to hold on and win the match 1-0 and the super shocker was a fact.
With the victory, Morocco made history as they became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup.
In the semi-finals, you meet either France or England, who play the quarter-finals at 20:00.
