The shock message: Swedish great talent Tilda Johansson breaks with the national team – reveals why: “I don’t like it”

Biathlon talent Tilda Johansson breaks with the Swedish national team.
– I hope that the national team and the association will be able to take it the right way, I don’t want to create any drama, she says to Aftonbladet.

Tilda Johansson has struggled with both well-being and motivation this past season. At the beginning of the year, the 24-year-old, who won the IBU Cup (the level closest to the World Cup) last season, took a break from biathlon.

Now she says she wants to invest further in her career, but with her own training program in Örnsköldsvik and Sollefteå. Being tied to the A national team, which has its base in Östersund, is not attractive.
– It’s not about there being anything wrong with the A-team or the association, I’ve received very good support and it’s thanks to them that I got where I got and got the results I did, says Johansson to Aftonbladet.

However, she does not like it in Östersund, she says.
– I don’t enjoy having to compare myself in a group every day. I have to be allowed to do what I believe in and it has not always been the plan that is in the national team.

Next season there may be competitions again – the long-term goal is the 2026 Olympics – and in parallel she intends to work as a coach at the biathlon high school in Sollefteå.
– I enjoy it very much and get a lot of energy. I’ve talked to my workplace, and if I feel during the winter that I want to compete, I think we’ll work it out.
