The SHL teams are gearing up for the coming season.
Now Växjö Lakers presents a heavy new acquisition ahead of the restart of the league.
– I am very happy, says the NHL-qualified forward.
The Växjö Lakers stood for a fully approved season in the SHL last year. The club finished in fifth place in the regular season, but when the playoffs started, the Småland players had a tough time in the quarterfinals.
Adds pointed name
It was a respite directly against Frölunda after 4–0 in matches, and the Växjö players got an early holiday. Since then, the club management has worked hard to sharpen the squad for the coming season, and presented several new acquisitions.
But the biggest change is that Sam Hallam has left the club. The coach, who led Växjö to three SM golds, became the new national team captain for Tre Kronor and the replacement was none other than the icon Jörgen Jönsson.
On Wednesday, the coach got a sharp name at his disposal for the upcoming season, namely the NHL-merited forward Dan Sexton.
“Very happy”
– I am very happy about the opportunity to come to Växjö, which seems to be a good city as well as an organization. I’m most looking forward to meeting my new teammates and going on the ice again, he says to the club’s website.
Sexton has spent the last few seasons in the KHL, where he represented Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk last season.
There, the 35-year-old accounted for 25 points in 48 games.
– Together with Dan, this is the squad we start with on August 1. In Dan, we get a classically productive forward. Dan has delivered consistently and well for a long time in very good leagues, says sporting director Henrik Evertsson.
