Rodrigo Abols goes hard for everyone who chooses to bet in the KHL.
With a brutally honest outing, the SHL star tells straight from the heart about why he will never play in the league.
– It is blood money, he says.
Rodrigo Abols was the team captain in Örebro during his last two years in the association, and he has also been a real star in the SHL context. Last season, for example, there were 41 points in 51 games, and expectations are high for next season, when he made the move to Rögle.
Strong history
Abols, who was born in Latvia, has previously played in the KHL and the Latvian team Dinamo Riga during his career. But it doesn’t matter how successful he is in the SHL, there will never be a move back to the KHL. In a brutally honest interview with Helsingborgs Dagblad, Abols talks about why he will never, ever make that move, and why he also has no respect for the players who make it.
Abols says that there have been special feelings since Russia invaded Ukraine.
– My grandfather, who passed away three years ago, was deported to Russia and came back several times. We in Latvia should be okay, because we are in NATO. Had we not been, I think we would have been occupied a while ago. We shouldn’t worry, but it’s scary when Moscow is ten hours by bus from Riga, says Abols to HD.

Honest words
Abol’s grandfather fought against Russia during his years of life, and therefore Abols will never – no matter how much is offered – play in the league. In the past year, scores of Swedes have chosen to leave the league, but several Swedes are still under contract in the league, something that has led to enormous criticism and which has also led to a total ban on games in Tre Kronor.
Abols says he doesn’t even want to be friends with people who decide to play in the league.
– Grandfather was not in the army, but fought against the Russians in other ways. So you could have offered me ten million here and now to play in the KHL – I wouldn’t have gone. It’s blood money and I have zero interest in being friends with people who go there now, says Abols.
