He has signed for Jaromir Jagr’s club.
But there is one thing that Adam Brodecki does not dare to say to the Czech legend.
– I hope they don’t even know about it, he says to SportExpressen.
Last season there was a game in Finnish JYP but now chooses Adam Brodecki to move on. New club and completely new country this time.
Owned by Jagr
The 27-year-old Swede, who has played in the SHL for Brynäs, Växjö, Linköping and Malmö, has signed for Czech Kladno. The famous club owned by the NHL icon Jaromir Jagr.
– I am happy to come to Kladno. I don’t know much about the city or the country yet, but I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone. It will be very new, says the new acquisition in its first statement.
– I wanted to try something new. When Kladno contacted me, I had a good feeling and I really want to help the team. I would be so happy if we could achieve some kind of success this season.
But there is a small detail that Brodecki is a little ashamed of before the move to Kladno. When the forward played for the Malmö Redhawks, he wore number 68 on his back, as a tribute to his own father.
“Dare not”
A shirt number that he absolutely will not choose in the Czech Republic, due to the fact that it is precisely Jagr’s number.
– I learned that already in Finland. It was a Czech teammate, Jan Scotka, who discovered that I still had 68 on my skates and then I realized that 68 is not worn in the Czech Republic. It’s like wearing number 99 in the NHL. It just doesn’t happen, the Swede explains to SportExpressen.
Instead, it will be number 71 for Brodecki, which is a tribute to his mother instead.
– There will be 71 in Kladno as well. I played with dad’s year of birth in Malmö, and switched to mom’s year of birth in JYP. It went well and I will continue with that, he says to the evening newspaper.
Adam Brodecki now hopes to the hockey gods that Jaromir Jagr doesn’t find out that the Swede has played with his classic number on his back.
– I probably won’t even dare to mention that I wore that number. I hope they don’t even know about it, he says in the interview.
