Max Véronneau poured in goals and left for the NHL.
Leksand hopes to get the scoring machine back if he were to return home to the SHL.
But now the club faces competition from a league rival – who is attempting a brazen signing coup.
Max Véronneau became a big crowd favorite for Leksand during the past season and was one of the SHL’s absolute best players. He kicked goals, and no one in the entire 2000s has scored more goals than his 34 goals in 51 games.
Poured in goals
The Leksands fans were hoping for a continuation in the white-blue shirt, but it was not to be. Instead, the Canadian was picked over to the San Jose Sharks, and he will try his luck in the NHL in the fall. It is of course a heavy loss for Leksand, who surprised many during last year’s regular season in the SHL.
Leksand still has the rights to the European contract, so should he return home, much has been said that it would be Leksand again. But now comes information that can clearly change that.
Planning a cheeky coup
According to Aftonbladet, Örebro is planning a completely brazen recruitment coup, where they simply plan to snatch the goal king in front of Leksand’s nose if he were to return home to the SHL again after his NHL adventure. The newspaper writes that such things can usually be resolved – regardless of who is on the contract – if all parties just want it.
Max Veronneau was named this year’s MVP in the SHL but signed a two-year contract in North America, which means he can play in both the NHL and AHL, and the question is whether he chooses to stay in the United States if there is no play in the top league. Örebro seems to need signings in, as they don’t have the widest attack crew in the league. They will also lose at least two players to JVM this winter.
