The 18-year-old was selected in the first round of the NHL draft.
But now the great talent Filip Mesar can leave North America.
To move to Sweden and an SHL team has shown strong interest.

The Montreal Canadiens chose Philip Mesar during the first round of the NHL draft this summer and expectations are high for the young Slovak. But for now, the 18-year-old still has a bit to go to represent the team in NHL games.

SHL interest

Earlier this summer, the super talent was linked with a move to Sweden, but as recently as this weekend, new information came that pointed to something completely different. Instead, Mesar would play on in the junior league OHL after completing training camp with the Montreal Canadiens.

But now things are swinging again and once again it is a move to Swedish hockey that is highly topical for the 18-year-old. And it is an SHL club that is really singled out as the most interested.

National team debut

Experienced hockey journalist Patrick Bexell on the Canadiens site Eyes on the Prize reports that he has received confirmation from two different sources that Brynäs wants coveted Mesar. The SHL team wants to strengthen with the forward talent on loan and is now working on a plan to bring the promising Slovakian into the team.

It is also rumored that another Swedish club is in the discussion, but that team has not been named yet. Mesar himself has been clear that he does not want to play junior hockey in the OHL and that he would rather play senior hockey in Sweden, according to information.

Filip Mesar made a big impact at home in Slovakia last season with 16 points in 37 games. It gave him the chance to debut in the A national team and later it led to a 26th place in this summer’s NHL draft.
